Market crashes are scary. The 2008 financial crisis was indeed serious, and it caused many to make counter-productive financial decisions. The reason lies in a simple 4-letter word – FEAR.
Every crisis brings out a media onslaught of stories that appeal to our darkest fears, causing us to focus on things we can’t control instead of taking control at precisely the time it’s needed most.
History has repeatedly shown that great financial opportunities are borne of seemingly dire circumstances. When inundated with the message that “it’s different this time”, it’s fair to assess the situation. But we have found those who face the future with courage rather than through the lens of fear stand the best chance of recovering and prospering.
