The philosopher Karl Popper said “Optimism is a moral duty”. The revival of construction activity across America is evidence that a new confidence is taking hold in our economy following the so-called Great Recession.
The media’s love of bad news is ages old and not likely to change any time soon (pardon my pessimism). But allowing all the bad news and negativity to influence our outlook, decisions, and actions can be destructive to our financial health.
Optimism allows us to manage fear, which is perhaps the greatest impediment to making sound financial decisions. Our economy is a reflection of our collective optimism, and even if you don’t agree that optimism is a moral duty, it’s just a better way to live than the alternative.
